Prompted by the attempted rape and murder of a female colleague in 1981, I embarked on “The Betrayal of Intimacy,” an independent research and public awareness project to prevent sexual violence. The sociopath, rapist, and abusive male is often a victim of early childhood abuse, humiliation, and neglect. This betrayal of intimacy creates the foundation for violence. If the absence of nurturing, punishment and sensory deprivation contribute to child and adult violence – feeling safe, physical affection and play in early childhood will prevent violence. Based on this simple observation, I founded Touch the Future, a nonprofit learning design center, in 1987. It is now 2024.
