The Challenge

The running joke is – you need a license to drive a car but not to be a parent. There is good reason for this but not good enough to marginalize parents out of the continuing parent-child equation.

We assume that children will follow and become the models they are given. This means that most of our attention resources should be invested in adult development and let nature’s model imperative do what she does best.

What’s missing is not a class or standardized curriculum, but rather regular, practical, mentored practice and experience for today’s parents. Our goal is to balance the human development equation by reframing and supporting continuing Parent-Child Development, not just child development.

The challenge is for individual adults model in their daily lives a quality of awareness and creative intelligence that lies outside the habitual model, and to do so in relationship with children.

Only in this way will the next generation evolve the worldview and capacities needed to meet and solve the challenges we have placed before them. The next generation can’t do this without our example and we can’t survive the mess we have created without their help.

This is what we mean by Touch the Future. All of our efforts are designed to awaken and support this alert awareness and creative intelligence in adults, and by implication, to transform all of childhood.
