    I think what happens when you don’t know what you’re doing as a novice, or you’ve been undermined in your development, is that you need some other outside structure to tell you how to live.  So in the hunter-gatherer communities, the Native American traditions the whole life’s field is structured around development and helping that child become the contributing adult.
