int of play titleThe Intelligence of Play is a revolutionary model of optimum learning , performance and wellness for children and adults. Gathering research from diverse fields, this 90 minute program applies what athletes call The Zone to parenting and education. Discover why some perform at extraordinary levels while others, with equal talent, find life a constant struggle.

We have conditioning, like Pavlov's conditioning of his dogs, and behavior modification, which we call learning but it's not learning. It's conditioning. Real learning take place by what Maria Montessori called "the absorbent mind of the child." Children simply absorb their universe, absorb it and become it, and they do this through play.

Original play is a practice of kindness which permeates all of one's relationships. It cultivates an ever-renewing sense of enchantment and engagement with the world. It develops calmness, awareness and a flexible ability to handle stress, surprise or challenges without aggression.

Play states, as they have appeared in nature are the major driving force in the development of higher brain function and critical for normal and healthy socialization, flexibility and adaptability. The greater the skill of the player in nature, the larger and more intricate is their brain. Authentic play is the essential foundation for adaptive learning.

Security is the foundation of play and the key to unlock our unlimited potentials. We need to create ways for children to discover play for the joy of play, to enter into it freely and play the game so that the playing is winning. If adults can't have fun, children aren't going to have fun. If we've got to win to prove we're having fun, they'll have to win to have fun. The question is not so much what kids need to do, it is what we need to do.

Physical affection and intimacy begin with mother and father and are the foundations for basic trust or its absence, fear and aggression. Safety, close physical contact, affection and bonding play critical roles in early brain development. These early relationships create life-long patterns of expansive learning of self-defense and violence. Basic trust is a prerequisite for The Intelligence of Play.
